Eco-drive is a module of the Suivo IoT Cloud Platform that visualizes the ecological and economical impact of a driver by using the Track and Trace data and hardware. Sharing this type of info with your driver crew has been proven to be an effective way to improve things like fuel usage, tire wear or oil consumption.
A necessary shift in the market
The influence of the transportation industry on climate change is getting bigger. Transport is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gasses.
“We notice that a lot of our clients are worried about the environment. (…) For our clients in transport and logistics it is a general mission to become ‘greener’. They want to minimize their ecological footprint and at the same time decrease their fuel usage. (…) Finally, the margin of those same transportation companies is under great pressure. Every tool that can decrease costs for logistics, helps them to invest in their futures.” says Dirk Lambrechts, CEO of Suivo.
How does ‘eco-driving’ work?
With a Blackbox and a CAN-bus connection, we’re able to measure things like speed, G-force and cornering. This data in a smart tool converts into 3 main pillars of the module: economic driving, environmental impact and energy consumption.
Drivers can get a daily notification of their “driving scores” with a handy e-mail report at the end of each day. There are three possible scores: an A, B and C. An A-score means a driver is driving economic and ecological, and a C-score is the opposite. Other details are included like speeding, accelerating and braking, how they make their turns, etc. The fleet manager or dispatcher can also see a general live report of the entire fleet in the web interface. In the standard daily reports, its easy to see who are the ‘black sheep’ among the drivers lowering the overall eco-score.
What is the impact in your company?
– You can identify blind spots in your fleet by measuring exact data on turns, braking, accelerating, fuel consumption and more.
– Creating awareness on driving behaviors decreases the amount of speeding tickets, fuel consumption etc. On the long term this saves a lot of costs.
– You can prevent accidents and increase safety by measuring potential unsafe driving styles.
– Drivers can be motivated to drive ‘pro-actively’ by rewarding them if they achieve an A-score.
